What is metabolic syndrome?
Metabolic syndrome is a term that is tossed around quite a bit these days but what does it actually mean?
It is a term that describes a number of different conditions that can increase your risk of heart disease and diabetes and is linked to overweight or obese and living a life of little activity.
If you think this maybe you and you are concerned about your health here are a few blood tests that your medical practitioner or GP can run to help to assess your overall health, that loo at risk factors for metabolic syndrome.
Some of these include –
C-Reactive Protein
High levels of C-Reactive Protein in the blood may indicate systemic inflammation. This is now recognised as a good alternative to other cholesterol tests
lP2a
lP2a is a key inflammation marker
High Fasting Blood Insulin Levels
Pre-diabetic conditions may also be identified by high fasting blood insulin levels.
If these or similar tests are undertaken and if these results are of concern, an appropriate course of action can then be taken to address the issue.
