Unfortunately as good as they look those perfect polished up vegetables and fruit on display at your local big box supermarket often aren’t as nutritional as we’d hope.
Genetic modifications, pesticide spray, early picking and artificial ripening by ethylene gas all help to produce “beautiful” looking produce, but it really reduces the nutritional content.
My father had a story recently….when shopping at a national chain supermarket he asked the attendant, “What was the best fruit?”
The attendant replied, “All ok just keep way from those apples. They were picked 12 months ago.” So much for fresh fruit!
My family and I go with in season produce from the local green grocer whenever we can.
(Another option is certified organic, which is great but usually costs a fortune!) #rods_sportsadventure
